My drawing: Finding Peace
Jessica Li, Brisbane, 2006
This oil pastel drawing was done in 2006. The concept of my drawing is "Finding Peace". The picture shows a tranquil place in Brisbane where I visited in 2006 and have been loving the peace there. The welcoming pavilion which is painted in a majority of warm colours green and white is surrounded by trees and flowers on a massive grassland. These make this architecture stands peacefully on this area without being incompatible with the nature.
Tree Hotel
Tham & Videgard Arkitekter, Sweden, 2010
This is a lightweight aluminium structure hung around a tree trunk. The exterior is clad in mirrored glass which gives the reflection of the surroundings and sky. When looking through the windows inside, it gives a 360 degree view of the surroundings. The construction has also illustrated how man relates to nature. I love the use of the reflective glass which creates a disguised refuge and prevents from affecting the surrounding habitat and environment.
As a tennis lover, it is a tradition for my family to play tennis every week. This picture was taken 2 weeks ago on a tennis court at night. It was a spontaneous move as I do not usually bring my camera with me to the tennis court as it may be smashed by the high-speed tennis ball, how dangerous!
I intended to put the tennis ball on the baseline of the court to produce a cut for the picture. The lighting and the original colour of the ball make it stands out from the court. I love the emphasis of the ball which the comparison with the massive size of the court is clear. Let's hit the ball!
